Money Matters (Financial Literacy & Entrepreneurship)

Youth will be introduced to earning, saving, spending, owing, tracking, giving, and investing their money. They will learn about several financial concepts, build money management skills, and make well-informed decisions about their financial futures through our Earn & Learn Program. We’re partnering with two local banks to help youth establish savings accounts.

Washtenaw County first- through fifth-graders will have a jumpstart on a savings account through a new program called My Future Fund.

While every student receives $25 in their account, students from lower-income families can receive an additional $475 if they give My Future Fund’s staff permission to check their eligibility based on income criteria. My Future Fund accounts will be created for all students this summer, unless they choose to opt out. Learn more here.

Also, United Way of Washtenaw County has partnered with CP Federal Credit Union to bring Banzai, a interactive online financial education platform, as a free resource for youth and teens in Washtenaw County.

The program identifies key stages of financial development for young people and offers practical, age-appropriate activities. Information is also included to help parents and caregivers encourage their kids to develop positive financial knowledge, skills, habits, and attitudes.
