The Michigan Community Engagement Alliance (MICEAL) is sponsoring a community forum for residents to gain insights from their collaborative research survey results on mental health, racial/ethnic inequality, and social factors that influence health.
There will be food, school supplies and a kid’s zone at the event. We hope to see you there. You can check out a flyer here and register for the event.

New West Willow Neighborhood Association (NWWNA) Meeting
Get up to date on events happening in and around the West Willow Neighborhood and Ypsilanti Township. NWWNA serves its members by working with various community and service organizations and individuals to provide input on issues that affect the neighborhood and undertake efforts to address the concerns of resident. Residents meet at
NWWNA provides helpful information to residents regarding health, safety, resources and events happening in and around the township. The neighborhood association can also serve as simply a fun way to get to know your neighbors.
There are approximately 1,300 households in the neighborhood, all of which are automatically members of the neighborhood association.

West Willow Youth & Elders Summer Camp
Youth and older adults using sports to introduce wellness, mindfulness and opportunities beyond the neighborhood. Join the fun every Sunday starting on July 7, 2024 from 2:00-3:30 thru September 8, 2024. (Click here to see a flyer about the event.)

West Willow Community Appreciation Event

Neighborhood Community Garden

Program description: Youth and elders will work collectively gardening and preparing healthy foods.
Program goals: Increase knowledge around gardening, better understanding of nutrition, and develop positive self-management skills.
Days of sessions: Twice a week on Mondays & Thursdays from 9:30-11:30AM

Storytelling, Action & Advocacy
Program Lead. Akintunde Oluwadare & Akinbambo Oluwadare
Program description: Youth and elders share their stories and work together on an effort that will benefit their community.
Program goals: (1) Enable youth to see themselves as respected, successful, valued and contributing members of the community with strong goals for their future.
(2) Provide a sense of connection, safety and belonging to young and old residents. We want the young and our elders to flourish in all parts of their lives, achieve success at any age and thrive in the neighborhood they love.
Days of sessions: Fridays, every other week starting on March 22 — December 13, 2024 from 6:00-8:00PM.

Financial Literacy & Entrepreneurship Program
Earn, Learn & Return Program
Program Lead: Geraldine Powell
Program description: Financial literacy is a crucial life skill that everyone, especially students, should possess. It involves having the knowledge and understanding of how to manage one's finances, including budgeting, saving, investing, and understanding credit and debt. It is essential for students to learn financial literacy as early as possible to prepare them for the real world.
Financial literacy education can help students make informed decisions about their finances and avoid financial traps that can lead to debt and financial hardship. By understanding basic financial concepts, students can develop good financial habits that can set them up for a successful financial future. They can also learn how to manage their money and make it work for them, rather than being controlled by their finances.
Program goals: Participants will understand financial and entrepreneurship concepts, to build financial skills; make well-informed decisions about their financial futures and learn what it takes to start a business. Students receive an educational stipend based on their active participation in the program. Sessions happen every other Friday from 6:00-8:00PM
